Barak

Baraks are a courageous and lively breed that have only one thing on their mind: hunting. They’re typical scenthounds whose favorite activities are smelling everything they can get their nose on, running after prey, and bonding with their owners. These dogs are devoted and affectionate with their families, but they’re more interested in working than being a companion. They may snuggle up to you once in a while, but as soon as they see a critter or smell something interesting, good luck keeping their attention.

This breed has a long, shaggy double coat that comes in several colors. You can find Baraks in wheat yellow, reddish yellow, grey, or black. Many of them also have white markings on their head, neck, chest, and legs. These dogs shed more than average too, so they need to be brushed a few times every week to keep their coat healthy and tangle-free.

Baraks were bred as hunting dogs, so they do best in rural areas where they have room to roam and hunt. They love being part of a pack and can get along well with kids and other dogs as long as they’re trained and socialized. On the other hand, the Barak will see cats and small pets as prey, so it’s not wise to keep them around non-canine animals.

Baraks are working and hunting dogs through and through, so they have quite the appetite for activity. They won’t be satisfied with just bathroom breaks or a simple walk, so plan on giving these dogs at least 45 minutes of hard exercise each day. Without it, they’re likely to act out, bark more than usual, and/or become destructive.
