Great Anglo-Francais Tricolor Hound

Breed Group: hound
"I run fast to keep up with my nose!"
Breed Profile
A rare breed from France, Great Anglo-Francais Tricolor Hounds are speedy hunters that go after large game like deer and wild boar. They love hunting. They love it more than, really, anything else. Great Anglo-Francais Tricolor Hounds are hard workers and don’t usually find the time to relax and be family pets.

Behavior

While hunting, Great Anglo-Francais Tricolor Hounds are determined team players and are obedient. Otherwise, their floppy hound ears can have selective hearing. These pack dogs take time to bond with their owners. They bond closest and quickest with their human hunting partner. If you aren’t willing to work with these stubborn hounds, however, they can get some bad manners. Great Anglo-Francais Tricolor Hounds have a voice with several different pitches, which is “instrumental” to their sport, but can also reveal how they are feeling.

Coat

Great Anglo-Francais Tricolor Hounds are a mix of French Hounds and English Foxhounds. You can see these similarities in their coat color and texture. These good-looking hounds have a short, smooth coat with the three colors: tan, black, and white. Great Anglo-Francais Tricolor Hounds shed, but a good brushing once a week will help remove dead hairs and the amount of fur they leave behind. Be sure to also check their droopy hound ears regularly for ticks and infections.

Lifestyle

Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolore Hounds are a hunter’s best friend. These large dogs love being outside and require daily exercise. Small spaces and these hounds do not mix. Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolore Hounds are pack animals and play well with other large dogs. Possessing a high prey instinct, they don’t usually play well with smaller pets.

Activity

Want to see a Great Anglo-Francais Tricolor Hound with a big grin on their face? Take them hunting with their dog friends. Their long legs can cover a lot of ground quickly, so they also make fun running companions. If you can keep up with them! Put them on a leash, and they can even become a biking companion as they run alongside you. This is a good way to tire out these seemingly tireless hounds.
